Herro!

Ha just typing that makes me laugh my guy friends in college were OBSESSED with the movie Team America. So Philly was soooooooooo fun! We got to do everything we wanted! So lets recap:

(camera cord still MIA :( I really want to upload some pics!)

Saturday we got up bright and early and took the train to Philly then checked in and set off to Reading Terminal Market for lunch. I got a chicken pesto crepe mmmm. This place is nuts total craziness and a billion food options I was overwhelmed and wandered around forever trying to decide what I wanted. Oh and to back up I got a Gingerbread latte to drink on the train and ate a NS Apple Scone.

After lunch we somehow figured out the bus system and rode over to the Franklin Institute which was cool but a lot like the Smithsonian museums here in DC. Then we went over to the Museum of Art to see the Rocky steps, the bfs one and only request. They have a statue of Rocky that of course we took some touristy pictures with along side the Japanese tourists. We didn’t even go in the museum since you had to pay $15 and there are again tons of art museums in DC. It was cold and rainy on sat so we decided it was nap time. Then wandered around the neighborhood and found a yummy Italian restaurant. I ordered the best freaking salad. It had butternut squash, caramelized beets, pumpkin seeds, goat cheese, and walnut vinaigrette mmmm. I also had a side of Butternut Squash Risotto which was meh and the bf ate most of it. After dinner it was time to go out and meet up with my good friend from high school I haven’t seen in ages. Funny enough it was the same bar I had gone to one time I came to Philly for work. Anyways apparently they sell 40s at bars in Philly the bf was totally excited. I stuck to red bull vodka :) . I have got to post pictures of this because I have some funny ones with the 40s.

Sunday it was sunny! We ate breakfast at the hotel where they had make your own waffles which I of course ruined because I can never work those freaking machines and gave up and just had a yogurt because my waffle was raw haha. Then we did the liberty bell, Betsy Ross’s house, all that touristy stuff. Following by a yummy dinner! It was a modern little place that had green apples as centerpieces which I thought was so cute! Good idea to incorporate in a wedding center piece. I was in a meat mood (very rare) and had London Broil. My bro used to make this for us sometimes. It was yummy.

Ooo and Monday before we left we had lunch at City Tavern which is a place that Jefferson, and Washington used to eat and drink at. How cool is that? The people are dressed all colonial. They even have some of the recipes from Jefferson and Martha Washington. The bf and I indulged in a 1 o clock drink haha and I had some raspberry concoction that I think had rum which was Martha’s recipe kind of like an alcoholic Shirley Temple. The bf had Jefferson’s beer recipe. I also ate a turkey pot pie which was fatty goodness. Then home we went and I had an NS dinner and passed out!

Ahh such a fun weekend and now back to work boo. Seriously I’m going to try to hunt down my camera cord tonight. I have a test Thursday again though so I may not get to uploading until tomorrow while I procrastinate at work :)

Vegetarian Wannabe (for the moment)

November 7, 2008 at 6:41 pm | In Lunch | Leave a Comment

I’m currently listening to my company’s call regarding all the changes. They are selling a lot of our aquisitions and laying off entire departments. I hear the same thing is going on at my mom’s company where she has to lay off her good friend today. It’s so sad and I’m almost becoming immune to it at this point, the shock value of whats going on has worn off and is becoming day to day. I feel as though my position is pretty safe (knock on wood) I deal with Sarbanes Oxley compliance for the most part and its cheaper for a company to hire people in our department (only 3 of us in my group) then hiring outside firms to come in which gives me some job safety.  I hope things start turning around soon. Poor Obama has some high expectations on the poor guy. I hope people realize that nothing is going to happen over night and that its going to take quite some time to fix things.

I’ll get off my soap box now and tell you about lunch. My stomach started growling at 11:30 so I grabbed a fun size pull and peel twizzler i found in the kitchen that kept me entertained until noon. Then I got excited to dive into my salad which had baby arugula, cucumber, and a Morning Star tomato something or other veggie burger I raved about in this mornings post. I also had a NS Tomato and Corn Chowder soup. I’m craving these veggie items lately! So odd tofu and now these veggie burgers. My brain is wanting to be vegetarian this week haha. I’m not a big meat eater to begin with really, kind of like most women I realized.

For an afternoon snack I have the usual cottage cheese and some grapes. Then home to pack and get ready for my Philly trip this weekend! I’m so excited we are taking the train tomorrow morning and get back on Monday. The plan is to do all kinds of touristy stuff and also meet up with a highschool friend. So excited. In case you haven’t read previous posts. The bf and I do weekend trips as presents for bdays. His choice this time was Philly. :)

Holy Deer

November 7, 2008 at 3:02 pm | In Breakfast | Leave a Comment

As I was getting into my car this morning this big (beautiful) deer sprinted past me. I was half asleep and thought I imagined it for a minute. Craziness. You don’t usually see deer where I live since I’m in the city so it was quite odd.

Anyways last night I got a 30 minute cardio workout of 15 min on the eliptical and 15 min on the treadmill with half of it walking on an incline.  Then I went to class where we talked about energy expenditure and the age old question “how many calories do I need?” The easiest way is to go on some website and find out your RMR/BMR. But we talked about some old theories. Once that I’ve heard before can’t think of the name right now but the one where you at 5lbs to 100lbs each inch you are over 5 feet tall for woman. For men its 106 and you add 6lbs. I never liked this one because I’m 5′5 and no where near 125. You are supposed to add and subtract 10% based on your frame size by seeing if you can wrap your fingers around your wrist, if they touch you stay the same, if they don’t touch add 10%, if they overlap subtract 10%. Mine touch so I’m supposed to remain at 125. I think only 2 people in my class met the required rate. Even my teacher and the tiny girl in front of me didn’t meet it so I felt better haha. Not that I think its a good judge just interesting. I asked the bf for a  boys point of view and he met the criteria to the tee. He’s 6′2.  How do you all compare to this calculation? Apparently insurance companies and some doctor’s go by this. I also learned that the body fat tests are not all that accurate for the most part unless you go in one of those crazy machines. So don’t be too discouraged.

I also felt like such an over achiever last night I was the only one who typed out the Diet Analysis project and put it in a binder. I think its my auditing skills coming out that I have to put things neatly in binders with dividers. People were like wow who turned in the binder. As I scrunched down in my seat haha. Whatev.

I came home last night and had a salad with cucumbers and a Morning Star Tomato Mozzarella Pizza or something veggie burger, topped with woodstock dressing. Man was that veggie burger yummmyy!

This morning I had NS Bran Flakes cereal with light vanilla soy milk, and a cup of coffee with a fage strawberry when I got into work and just a few minutes ago had a banana for a mid morning snackaroo.

TGIF t minus 7 hours until the weekend!

Dinner for Lunch

November 6, 2008 at 9:54 pm | In Dinner, Lunch | Leave a Comment

Since I have class tonight I decided to switch around my meals a bit. I brought a dinner NS meal Rotini with marinara and meatballs and prob over a cup of steamed green beans and carrots. I needed a computer break because my eyes were killing me from staring at the screen and decided to go get an Eggnog Misto from Starbucks. Inspired by Tina from Carrots N Cake. I read her post and was like mm that sounds good. I’m a fan of egg nog it tastes like Christmas but it is sooo rich. The misto was good but kind of cold I think they used cold eggnog which cooled the coffee. So both my lunch and drink were totally filling and its now 5 and I’m about to run down to the gym and I’m still no where near hungry.

I brought lunch to eat before class at 7 which consists of a NS Fudge Graham Bar, and a honey crisp apple. I’ll probably eat like a sald with some protein maybe a veggie burger when I get home after class.

It’s going to be a quick gym visit I only have a small amount of time in order to make it to class on time. So prob just do some cardio like maybe tredmill and eliptical? I’ve been doing 10 minutes here and there on different machines since I’ve been getting bored with my cardio. Makes it go by faster. But I did find out I’m getting a Wii and Wii fit for christmas!!! I’m so excited! My parents asked me what I wanted and I said no purses or clothes since I have no room for them in my closet. My mom goes nuts she got my 5 purses last year. You read that right 5! You should see her closet. I’m trying to downsize a bit for when the bf and I move in so he doesn’t throw me out because of my massive amount of stuff haha.

Last night I did 10 min on the eliptical and tried the stair climbing machine for the first time. Like the machines that look like a staircase. Holy workout. I only lasted 10 min. It was such a good workout. I’m going to start incorporating that crazy machine more. I also did my strength training routine. Then I came home and had a bunch of steamed green beans and baby carrots with some NS meal which was meh. I also through in some of TJ’s tereyaki tofu. I’ve been on such a tofu kick lately. I’ve liked it for awhile but lately i’m craving it for some reason. For dessert I had a little bit of light vanilla soy milk and an NS cookie. Then finished my project and went over the the bfs. As you may have noticed I’ve cut down the number of workouts I’m doing since I’m consuming less calories on this diet. My goal is 3 times a week.

This morning I had a half caffeneited cup of coffee, NS cranberry granola bar and an Oikos vanilla yogurt. I have a pear for a mid morning snack too.

So on to the title of my blog. I occasionally email back and forth with my college love. Now let me clarify my bf now is my 1st REAL love but this guy was def my college love. You know the guy you wasted the majority of your college years (and even the year after) going back and forth with. Anyways I think deep down he is a good guy (really deep though like you have to really get in there haha) but he is so confused in life I think. First of all Van Wilder style he didn’t graduate college until 2 years after we all did. Then hasn’t had a real world job yet. I got an email from him today saying he has been avoiding talking to me because I have my life together and he doesnt and I think it finally hit him he can’t be a college kid anymore. I feel bad for him but I think its funny how to him I have my life together. And I mean I kind of do but just comes to show you that none of us have it ALL together. I mean I’m still torn about career changing and all that jazz. Anyways just thought I would share this interesting piece of info for my randomness of the day.

I better ge to work. Until lunch my friends.

PS I can’t find my camara cord lately hence no pics. I need to go digging around my room tonight.

Lunch Break

November 5, 2008 at 7:53 pm | In Lunch, Randomness for the day | Leave a Comment

I ate lunch around noon and had a salad with come cucumbers and Woodstock dressing. This stuff is good its the first bottle I’ve bought.  I think I still like Goddess dressing better though.  I also had an NS split pea soup and a cookie. Whoops! I wont have dessert tonight and the cookie will be my dessert. It was one of those break apart and bake tollhouse kind. Always a nice little treat. People keep bringing this stuff into the office!

The bf was having a bad day so I met up with him for a few so he could vent. Then I came back to work and tried to get motivated until about a few minutes ago when I grabbed my afternoon snack of cottage cheese. I have some grapes which I haven’t gotten to yet. I’m also sipping on some decaf tea.

It’s kind of funny to me how I feel like so many people my age (i’m 25) are kind of in a quarter century crisis, like not knowing what to do with their lives or their careers or which path to take. Its so hard! I went through that and started exploring my interests and that is how I landed on wanting to become an RD. Its like you need to do a little soul searching you know. When you are 22 and graduate you have no idea what you want to do you just know what you should be doing. Then by 25 you have been out of school for a few years and I think come to the realization that maybe what you planned isnt what you enjoy.  I love fashion and my dream job was always to become a buyer or work as a stylist something like that. But you know what for me that isn’t realistic, maybe if i was single I would just get up and move to NYC and start but that isn’t the case. So for me becoming an RD fulfilled another interest as well as can be seen as somewhat practical. Minus the having to go back to school for a long time part haha.  Anyways point being its tough but pretty common and I think everyone in this situation should take the time to explore and see what they can see themselves doing and what makes them happy.

Thats my speech for the day haha. My bf was so down today and I told him something similar. So I thought I would share my thoughts and experiences as well :)

Ok back to real life, I’m planning on going to the gym tonight and doing some cardio and weights. Then finishing up my project then prob going to the bfs.

Change has come

November 5, 2008 at 2:31 pm | In Breakfast | Leave a Comment

So exciting that Obama won and this is all FINALLY over. I felt so American yesterday and proudly wore my “I voted” sticker. It was my first time voting too.  I came home last night and had an NS Pizza and then headed to the Young Democrats party at the bar with the bf. I had a draft Blue Moon as we watched the results start to come in. It was soooo packed very intense. They also had some of the lower level election winners from Arlington make some speeches. We went home around 10 and I promptly passed out at 10:30 while the bf stayed up. At that point I knew Obama would win I was just curious to see which way my state VA went and my home state of FL. Oh I also had an NS brownie when I got back to the bfs.

I hope I’ll be able to attend some of the inaugural events in Jan when Obama is sworn in!

Anyways this morning I had a cup of coffee and a peach fage when I got to the office. I had an NS cereal before I left the house. I also have a bananna for a mid morning snack.

I wish we had today off haha, until lunch my friends…

Anticipation

November 4, 2008 at 6:57 pm | In Lunch | Leave a Comment

Met up with the bf for lunch I got a “Udon Creation” which had the obvious udon noodles in some broth with tofu, broccoli, mushroom, sprouts, and some other stuff i think. it was good but not pretty to eat and complicated. I think you kind of need to shovel it into your mouth with the chopsticks.

I’m dying with anticipation to see what happens tonight! The bf and I decided to take advantage of living in the DC area and go to the Young Democrats party they are having at a bar near our places to watch the results.  So in a sublte way you can see who I voted for :) .

I realized via facebook today that almost all of my highschool friends and college friends are republicans and the majority of my friends here in the DC area are democrats. Interesting huh? I guess college represents wealthy southerners who tend to lean on the conservative side. As far as South Florida I don’t know. But they tend to be more conservative too. Funny how geographic locations vary huh?

Anyways I’m crashing waking up at 5am is not for me! I kind of want to try to leave work early and sneak in some relaxing time or a nap.

As for dinner the bf is planning on going to Chick Fil A to get a free sandwhich for voting but I think I’m going to eat some NS food at home. Thats the plan stan.

I Voted!

November 4, 2008 at 1:30 pm | In Breakfast | Leave a Comment

So I got my butt out of bed at 5 ish this morning, got dressed, packed my lunch, and set out to go vote. Luckly its not a freezing day so that helped and I found an awesome parking spot at the school where I had to vote. There were probably only 10 spots in the lot and somehow I came by at the right time :) . I got there about 6ish and it took my almost exactly an hour. I wish I had, had more info on some of the questions to vote for, I had to blindly vote yes or no for them. Oh well. After voting I marched on over to starbucks for my free tall coffee! Of course there was a line too. Krispy Kreme is giving out star shaped doughnuts which I think is cute. There aren’t any around here and to be honest I do not need a doughnut so no biggie.

Soon as I got to work I fixed up by Starbucks with some half and half and splenda. There coffee is so strong to me I’m wiried now. I also munched on a NS Choco chip granola bar. I have an Oikos vanilla  and an apple for a mid morning snack.

I can’t wait to see what happens tonight. I mean either way we are getting some history happening so thats exciting. I really just hope the next pres jumps right in and fixes things up so people like me can not worry about quitting their jobs and going back to school!!

Speaking of school I decided I’m gonig to sign up for the “virtual” College Chem 1 class at the community college. I decided on virtual because its hard to truck on over to the school 2 days a week. With the virtual you watch 26 30 min videos and have a few labs on saturdays. I know it is going to be tough and prob more work but at least I’ll have the flexibility. In order to qualify as a transfer for VA Tech Nutrition program you need to complete Chem 1 and 2. So I’m hoping to do Chem 2 during summer session.

Anyways until lunch loves..

Weekend Rollup and Health Fair Monday

November 3, 2008 at 5:44 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

So Friday was quite the show. We went to a friend’s halloween party where my roomie and I were some how beer pong champions. This along with “gin bucket” lead to my demise. I was on quite the roll during beer pong with lead to game after game until we were defeated. Then Gin Bucket is some sort of drink concoction, not sure what is in it except for the obvious which is usually taken as a shot with a turkey baster but at this party it was more of a punch. Anyways I had a great time with my friends but man I drank way too much. I can’t do it like I used to in college. My saturday was spent in the following way: I went from the bf’s bed, to his couch, to my couch, to my bed, back to the bf’s couch, and back to his bed. The day was spent watctching several DVR shows and movies. What a waste of a pretty Saturday. Oh well.

Here are some halloween piccs for your viewing pleasure:

The bf was the Karate Kid, My friend eating my cupcake was a pirate, and I was the karate kids’ love interest Kimiko eating one of my friend’s cookies haha

My roomie was one a Gondola person from Venice she had a paddle and everything. In this pic she is using her bf’s drumsticks and pretending to put them in my hair as chopsticks haha.

I was trying to make my eyes look Asian. Looked better in person.

The bf doing the “krane” and my roomie’s bf the 80’s rocker

Step away from the Gin Bucket! (I couldnt let go of that fan all night its in every pic)

I also made the best pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. I wish I had a picture I also sprinkled halloween sprinkles on top. Mmm.

Sunday I went to visit my grandpa in the hospital and brought him a cupcake :) . He was very pleased. Then came home went to the grocery store and worked on my Nutrition project. I’m so close to being done. Then watched True Blood (we are totally addicted to this show in my house) and Brothers and Sisters then passed out!

Food was bad this weekend hangover=bad food choices. It wasn’t worth drinking that much blah. My poor liver haha. No drinking for a long time for this girl.
